Hello World!
And here we go—drumroll, please!—the first post on my brand-new blog!
I used to have two other blogs before. The first one was an adventure/travel guide. The second was a little more serious—it focused on tips and tricks (life hacks, if you will) for becoming better, healthier, more efficient, and more joyful in life. Neither of them exists anymore; I took them down years ago.
I started the latter after attending a Tony Robbins – Unleash the Power Within event in London in 2015. It got me all fired up about helping people live healthier, more balanced lives. There was also a selfish component—by researching and writing about these topics, I hoped to adopt them myself and, in turn, become better and more effective in my own life. Overall, I was pretty content back then: I had a solid job, was engaged to my (now) wife, and was just looking for that extra edge to take me to the next level.
And it worked. In 2017, I landed a new job at a Fortune 100 company (where I still work today) after HR printed out sections of my blog and forwarded them to the hiring manager. I had referenced my blog in my CV, and it seemed to make a difference—I got the job.
With this new blog—or journal, rather—I don’t have any concrete plans other than writing about whatever is on my mind, with no clear agenda. I have to admit, I love writing. And, as many studies have shown (and I’ve personally found), writing helps organize my thoughts. That’s why I named it The Boring Journal—I’m not promising groundbreaking discoveries or world-changing ideas. That’s not the intention. The intention is purely selfish, as described above. But if anyone wants to tag along—building a follower base, having great discussions with like-minded people, even making new friends—that would be an amazing added benefit.
I do hope there are still some of you out there who read blogs. Reading and writing have a special magic that podcasts and vlogs don’t—though I totally understand why those are hugely popular. If you like what you read, check back from time to time, and feel free to engage by sharing your stories or thoughts on any given subject, either in the comments or privately.
It should be fun. If it’s not fun, we don’t do it. Let that be the motto of the day.
